Why should you sing this song?

  1. It’s a wake-up call if you started to believe for a moment that your salvation is because of yourself.
  2. It’s excellent for people who feel unworthy of God—maybe even outside of grace —because of their own actions. Grace is for those people, they must realise that their worthiness comes not from themselves, but from God.

I’m not worthy to be called your own I’m not worthy to approach your throne I’m not worthy – Lord I have fallen I’m not worthy – but you have chosen

In 2 Corinthians 6:18 it says “and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” We are called sons and daughters, we are His. However, this isn’t because we deserve to be. Romans 14:10 says Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; we will stand before Him. Ephesians 1:4 says “even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him in love” this shows how we will stand before His throne. We will be blameless, again, not because of our work but because of Jesus’ work and in this sense, we aren’t worthy in ourselves.

To show your glory in my weakness

1 Corinthians 1:28 “God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are”. This is a theme of scripture, God uses weakness to show His strength, the heroes of the bible are filled with faults, be it David, Noah or of course, Adam and Eve. Yet Eve is the mother of all the living, Adam, the father. David was the least likely to defeat Goliath, yet God used Him, Noah made mistakes of his own. Jesus, the one who will save humanity from sin, is born as a baby in a manger, what could be weaker than a baby? And yet this baby was to be the saviour of the world. God uses our weakness to show His glory.

To make me right before you God

It is God’s sovereign choice to choose to save us and it was not necessary that He would do that.

I’m not worthy but you restore me, your grace abounds to save this soul

Again, we are not worthy but we are restored by God. It is by His grace that we are saved.

Glory, glory the king has chosen to know me, Glory, glory the king has chosen to know me

We should never stop glorying in the fact, that God, the king, has chosen to know us, we are not deserving and yet gloriously He has chosen us.

Jesus bought us and He knows our name His blood has taken all our sin and shame

Jesus has paid for us with His blood, the cost should be recognised. Though it does not cost us to accept it. It cost Jesus’ life and death for God to pay for us, and through His blood, we no longer have to suffer the shame of being seen as sinful beings before a holy God.

Gracious Father, though we were far Called your children and so we are

Again, our separation from God is because of us, and though we have separated ourselves and gone down our own paths, He calls us to return, we are His children, and because He says so, it is true.

By your grace – my debt was paid a way was made now worthy – because you came

On the contrary to the fact that we are not worthy, in reading the scriptures, you will find that we really are worthy, because of the work of Christ, He has made us worthy before Him and who else’s rule or judgement could be greater? He says we are worthy and no standard could be higher. This is not a song about being unworthy, regardless of how it may seem, our worth is only enjoyed when we realise who it comes from, as all good things do. I hope that you find and enjoy your worth in Christ.
