Pastoral Care

The church of Jesus Christ has both an inward and outward purpose. We are passionate about the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) to call people come to know Jesus but we are also passionate about caring for people who are already believers.

The primary way our members are cared for at CityLight East is through our Discipleship Groups. Through these groups, we encourage authenticity, practical care, encouragement, and prayer. At times, our elders may also be involved in offering care and support.

Mental Health Support

We recognize the growing need to support our members experiencing mental health challenges (Gal 6:2, Heb 10:24-25). This support happens primarily through Discipleship Groups (DG’s) offering fellowship, praying together, and regularly checking in.

We also recognize that at times it can be necessary for our members to seek additional professional mental health services beyond the resources CityLight East can provide.

Importantly, we acknowledge that many trained secular professionals operate under philosophies of practice that are in conflict with God’s word. CityLight East seeks to equip its leaders to encourage and support members in seeking mental health services, professional counselling services, psychologists and doctors that do not offer interventions that conflict with the teaching of God’s Word.

At CityLight East it is the standard of practice that DG leaders will engage our Elders around areas concerning mental health support, and that our Elders and DG leaders will walk alongside members in seeking to connect with support services outside of CityLight East.
